SLS 445 BASIC SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION
FOR INTERPRETERS 3 sh
A practical course in the process of interpreting from ASL to English and from English to ASL. Emphasis is on a sociolinguistic model of interpretation. Related linguistic processes will be examined. Prerequisite: SLS 441 and departmental approval.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
a) To identify and apply principles of interpreting models and processes.
b) To develop a theoretical understanding of simultaneous interpretation and its application to the interpreting environment.
c) To analyze linguistic characteristics of simultaneous interpretation.
d) To examine global and sub-processes of simultaneous interpretation.
e) To identify skills, knowledge and psycholinguistic factors that affect interpreter processes.
f) To examine the role and function of the interpreter in interpreting environments.
