During the fall semester of 2002, I student taught at Conant Elementary School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.  Conant has approximately 450 students. I had 19 students in my 4th grade class.  The majority of Conant's students are Caucasian and are from high social economic status families.

Conant Elementary School has state of the art technology facilities. The entire Bloomfield Hills district has wireless airport Internet connection. Teachers and students can move their laptops anywhere throughout the building or district, and with simply changing the airport they are connected to the World Wide Web.  Conant has a full time technology director who works in the computer lab- which has 15 Mac desktops and a portable cart of 25 Mac iBook laptops. Teachers can check-out the cart and wheel the laptops to their classroom. Additionally, teachers have access to a laptop digital projector, which I used regularly to project my laptop to an overhead screen.

In my 4th grade class I specifically had 3 desktops, 6 laptops, 3 printers, a digital camera, Canon ZR-10 camcorder, and a quick-time mini camera that we used to meet other classes online and for videoconferencing.  Each student was also given an E-Mate to use for the year. E-Mates are a Mac product that uses the Newton word processing program.  Although E-Mates did not connect to the Internet they were great tools for word processing, creating spreadsheet, drawing, and practicing typing skills with the Type-to-Learn program. The students could connect their E-Mate to any one of the 3 classroom printers.
